Sacred Cacao

Cacao naturally grows in South and Latin America, Indonesia and parts of Africa. Spiritually it grew his roots in Central America, in the highlands of Mexico. The ancient Mayans were using this sacred medicine for more than 1000 years, for spiritual and physical purposes. For the mayans Cacao was known as “Food of the Gods” due to its content of Theobromine, “Theo” meaning Food, “Broma” meaning God. The alkaloid, which brings the bitter taste to cacao and carries similar effects as caffeine. However, it works in a more gentle way in the human body, opening the blood vessels, enhancing energy levels, focus and mood. We not only feel an emotional opening of our heart by drinking the medicine but also on a physical level, responsible is Theobromine, the god like alkaloid.

Another molecule that is worth mentioning is Anandamine - “Ananda” means Bliss in Sanskrit and is linked to the feelings of joy, love and happiness that arise during a cacao ceremony. Cacao is directly linked to our centre of emotions, the heart chakra. Feelings of bliss, contentment and even euphoria may be enhanced but also surpressed emotions are brought up, that our hearts need to feel, face and eventually let go. 

To gather in a cacao ceremony gives the opportunity to deeply listen to the voice within, to listen to your heart and in many cases to open the voice. Sing through your emotions and let go of stuck energies. Cacao opens the door to your Higher Self, to the essence of your soul, which leads you to healing on a very subtle and profound level.
