The Medicine

Kambo is the secretion of the Giant Monkey Frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), and like many natural amphibian secretions, contains a rich cocktail of biochemical compounds and peptides. The frog lives in the Northwestern part of the Amazon Rainforest, namely Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru and is traditionally used by indigenous tribes to gain strength and immunity, to increase hunting skills and as vaccine to ward off illness and various diseases. The Giant Monkey Frog secretes the waxy poison from its skin as protecting against other predators.

The many peptides contained in the frog’s secretion are highly beneficial to the human body. It has antibiotic properties and strengthens the immune system while physically destroying pathogenic microorganisms. Moreover, the peptides are known to be anti-inflammatory and their effects are reported to cover a wide range of potential medical uses: treatment of brain diseases such as Alzheimer and Parkinson, depression, migraines, blood circulation problems, vascular insufficiency, organ diseases, cancer, fertility problems in women, AIDS, hepatitis and more.

Kambo spirit is a powerful allay for Ayahuasca ceremony; beforehand it helps to clean the pshysical and emotional body from toxins and heavy energies allowing Ayahuasca to enter easily into the system and energie field. Afterwards it may sweep away any stuck energy and residues, promoting clarity and lightness benefiting the integration work.

Cleansing

Kambo has a detoxifying effect on the internal organs, including the liver (usually one vomits up bile) and the intestines (through defecation) as well as the entire digestive system. The Katukina natives also use Kambo as the antidote for snake bite, as a medicine for many illnesses, and as an overall health tonic. There are many accounts of people using Kambo and bouncing back from fatigue, depression, addiction, bad luck, sicknesses, and age-related symptoms.

A deeper look into the most relevant peptides and how they affect the system throughout the session:

Phyllomedusin - has strong effects on the digestive system and plays a role in the emetic effect of Kambo application - the vomiting and purging that occurs during a Kambo ceremony - helping to cause gut contractions. It interacts with the receptors involved in regulating dopamine, serotonin and other neurotransmitters.

Phyllokinin - has an impact on the dilation of blood vessels, causing greater blood-flow in the affected areas, and also has a part to play in allowing other peptides in Kambo to cross the blood-brain barrier, creating the means by which Kambo can influence the chemical balance of the brain, as well as the physical symptoms it induces in the body.

Phyllocarulein - a neuropeptide that stimulates the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland. Kambo is said to be able to ‘reset’ the immune system, body and mind. This compound in particular, has pain relieving effects and can also bring about the sensation of feeling full. Hence why it has traditionally been used by tribes at times when food may have been scarce.

Adenoregulin - a powerful antibiotic, rapidly and irreversibly effective against a range of parasites. Combined with Dermaseptins and their ability to cross the blood brain barrier, it’s especially promising for conditions like Cryptoccocal meningitis in patients with late-stage HIV. It also has potential in Alzheimers, depression and addiction.

Deltorphins & Dermorphin - pain relieving effects, stronger than morphine without the same level of respiratory depression, tolerance potential and withdrawal symptoms.

Sauvagine - this acts like a hormone, affecting the pathways involved in stress, anxiety, depression and addictive behaviour

Dermaseptin B2 - which has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth, viruses and reducing prostatic adenocarcinoma by 90%. It also kills the filamentous fungi that affects AIDS patients. With the emergence and spread of highly resistant pathogenic bacteria, novel antibiotics such as these are becoming critical.
